Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In my classroom, I believe that students learn best when they feel safe, seen, and supported—and flexible seating plays a huge role in creating that kind of environment. Traditional desks and rows don’t meet the needs of every learner, especially in today’s diverse and dynamic classrooms. Flexible seating gives students the opportunity to choose where and how they work best—whether that’s curled up with a good book on a soft cushion, sitting crisscross on a rug with a whiteboard, or standing tall at a table where they can wiggle and move. When students are given a choice, their sense of ownership and engagement skyrockets.

My goal is to transform my classroom into a cozy, welcoming space where every child feels at home.

Many of my students come to school seeking stability, comfort, and connection, and I want our classroom to be a place where they can truly breathe and feel at ease. With the help of flexible seating—like floor cushions, wobble stools, lap desks, and comfy corners—I can offer my kiddos a safe space that nurtures their emotional well-being and encourages their academic growth. When students feel comfortable, they are more open to take risks, collaborate with peers, and dive into learning with confidence.

This project will help me create a classroom that’s not just a place to learn, but a place to belong.
