I created this wish list with the end goal of helping my students create a clean space for learning. We are working on being responsible for our own spaces and respectful to everyone around us by keeping our classroom clean. Care tasks are not always taught at home, and I think keeping up with care tasks at school is critical to student success as it teaches responsibility for oneself.
Not only is a clean workspace a critical aspect, but it is also important to have the resources to be our best selves at school.
I want each student in my class to have access to a hygiene closet to take care of their personal needs that might not be accessible at home. This includes feminine hygiene, deodorant, hair care, etc. Being able to look and feel our best is key to feeling comfortable enough to open up to learn!
My goal for this project is to teach responsibility and respect so that students can translate that knowledge into their academics as they continue in their educational journey. I believe this goal is pivotal to their success in life not just as students in my class. Being able to be safe and have a clean and functional environment for learning is key for students.
