My Project

I want to be build a program that allows students to learn puppetry arts and this project is about creating a puppet making workshop.

The last two years, I've had the opportunity to work on student projects with puppetry, and I've witnessed not only how much joy I feel doing with work with students, but the profoundly positive effect it's had on so many of our students.

We recently did a series of Spanish shadow puppet plays that took eight weeks to write, design, build, rehearse, and perform. Last year, we recorded eighteen educational sketches with puppets that were fun, but, also really deep pedagogically. The students had to work on their use of a different language in a prolonged and organic way. It was hard work, and it was so much fun.

All the foam, fabric and clay materials in this project are for one purpose: to teach students how to design and build puppets. We'll use these puppets in any number of ways, but, I want to give my students professional tools and materials, and provide them with a truly singular educational experience.

This project will not only serve the school community now, but, could potentially serve as a proof of concept for something much bigger. I'm always coming up with something new to do. All of those projects have led me to this. I'm sure it might seem ridiculous to some folks, and maybe it is. I love that. Let's get crazy.
