My Project

What makes my eighth-grade science students unique and special is that our class consists of a wide variety of academic levels. The students in my classroom vary academically, English speakers, English language learners and in economic status. Although, there are many differences amongst our students, my students are able to collaborate and elaborate on assignments well. My students would benefit from the purchase of classroom supplies and flexible seating through this project for multiple reasons. With our school being Title 1, the students would benefit from the additional supplies because some of our students’ parents cannot financially contribute to school supplies or additional items needed in this classroom. The supplies requested are for experiments and daily use. The students will benefit from the flexible seating by allowing them to collaborate with their peers in an engaging environment.

COVID has impacted the learning of the students in my classroom by limited access to instruction over the course of the last two years.

The impact has been reflected on assessments not only in my classroom but across our state. Students have had a lack of instruction due to the initial shutdown as well as from being quarantined. The classroom supplies will help students by limiting financial responsibility for parents in turn reducing student stress therefore, allowing them to focus on their academics. The flexible seating will benefit students by creating an environment that students can collaborate and move around.

The resources provided through this project will allow my students to focus on their academics. The straws and globes are additional items for our hand-on experiments. The highlighters will help with reading strategies and evidence finding. The flexible seating will promote learning by allowing the students to move freely throughout the classroom to collaborate on assignments and experiments.
