This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students are from an under-served community, over 99% minority population, lots of English learners, title 1 school and district, big school population of over 2400 students, overwhelming majority quality for free and reduced lunch. Despite all these things, they stay positive and want to thrive. I love their energy and commitment to success. Despite what anyone says, they give it their best and that's all I can ask for while I try my best to support them.

Every year I buy classroom supplies for students who have difficulties acquiring notebooks and other things they need for school.

My Project

Without basic supplies such as notebooks and pencils/highlighters, student learning is delayed and they start falling behind quickly. I notice that there are students every year that come to me asking if I have any spare materials that they could use because they cannot ask their parents to get it or buy it for themselves. These simple necessities should be provided to all students no matter what their financial situations may be. I started buying supplies for them at the beginning of each year but it also a financial burden on myself since I cannot help them all.

Getting these materials will help my students be ready for their classes and start off the semester right.
