Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Restore our classroom library! Many books vital to my students' learning are now worn out. By replacing our worn-out books, you will be helping to replenish our classroom library.
My students are a lively and curious group of ethnically and academically diverse second graders.
Our school is a Title I school located in an urban area.
All of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch by virtue of their families' socioeconomic status.
I have a total of 22 students. Nine are African American. Thirteen are Hispanic. Ten have been classified as Limited English Proficient by the State of California on the basis of parent surveys and student assessments.
Despite their socioeconomic and academic disadvantages, they have been hard-working, enthusiastic learners, and it has been my pleasure to be their teacher!
My Project
Our classroom library has been funded primarily at my own expense, although more than one local organization has contributed.
Nevertheless, the number of books has diminished recently due to wear and tear.
In particular, we have lost most of our Geronimo Stilton Books - chapter books for younger readers that teach important cultural and historical content through engaging plots, pictures, and characters.
We have also lost many of our dinosaur/fossils books which are a very important part of our unit of study on fossils and dinosaurs. This thematic unit has sparked my students' interests in learning about the Earth's history, the creatures that inhabited it long ago, and other related topics.
By funding replacement books, you will enable my students' to continue to enjoy these and other learning benefits.
Most of my students don't have access to many books at home, so they depend upon the strength of our classroom library to provide a wide variety of books in many different subjects and areas of learning.
Please help me maintain the strength of our classroom library by donating to this project today!
