Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am new at this school this year and have found the students to be diverse coming from several different cultures and backgrounds. Some students come from financially stable homes and many from homes severely financially impacted by COVID and other factors.
Regardless of their backgrounds, students want to be successful and try very hard to be good students.
The impact of COVID is seen across the board, but more so with our freshmen who struggle with coping and relationship skills.
I hope this project will help students learn important social emotional skills that will be useful the rest of their lives.
My Project
I'm a School Counselor working with diverse students in a Title I high school. Our students can be creative, kind, motivated, determined and willing to do what it takes to be successful, however they are faced with many stress inducing obstacles. Poverty is high on that list at any given time. Unfortunately the last two years has increased everyone's stress level. Many students simply do not have the coping skills to manage their stress, which of course impedes their learning. I will work with students to learn how to manage stress and regulate their emotions.
These activities can be tied to Self Management standards for high school health (7.SM.HS.1, 7.SM.HS.2, 7.SMHS.3)
