Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

No two students are created alike. That is true in every classroom or learning setting, much even more so in settings that are geared towards neurodiverse and exceptional learners. The challenges that some students encounter when it comes to being at peace in their own bodies and the learning environments are largely misunderstood by the majority of the population.

Each of my students has some level of sensory integration dysfunction, which means they tend to underreact or over-react to the stimuli around them.

Some students need a significant level of support to remain in a zone that allows them to learn. The tools in this project will help them regulate their bodies. As much as it may make some of us dizzy just thinking about it, spinning for long periods of time help some of the students feel better in their own bodies and less scattered. Many students want and crave small spaces to crawl into to feel safe and secure. This feeling of security allows them to then process and integrate new information presented to them. The tunnel and the large building blocks will allow them the opportunity to create and experience those tight spaces they are seeking.

Given the right tools to support their sensory and regulation needs, my students will be better able to learn and thrive!
