Our school is located in Queens, New York. I have students of all different nationalities as well as with all different learning needs.
My room is filled with an amazingly diverse group of students who are energetic, motivated, and all have a common love for learning.
Many of my students have difficulty sitting still and focusing for periods of time. This can be challenging for them since their need to fidget causes them to miss parts of the lesson. They also require constant redirection.
My Project
It is hard for many children these days to focus their attention for periods of time, however some children have more difficulty than others. Some of my students have a tremendous amount of energy that causes them to constantly move their bodies or fidget with any object they can find. At times they can both distract themselves, as well as those around them with their need to fidget and move.
The use of wobble chairs and bouncy bands, on their desks or chairs, will allow them them to keep their bodies in motion, so that they can listen to the lessons and continue to learn without constant interruptions throughout the day.
These types of flexible seating tools allow these students to remain in their seats instead of having to walk around the room or even leave the room to help refocus their attention.
With these tools students can focus their attention on their work while allowing their bodies or feet to be in motion. Flexible seating will literally make us active learners!
