My students are amazing! I teach at a high-poverty school where our students face challenges inside and outside of the classroom; yet, they are hardworking, passionate learners.
Despite all the negatives, my students come to school every day full of energy and ready to learn.
They love moving around the classroom and working with each other to learn new concepts. We work together to make our class a family where everyone belongs. They care about each other and encourage each other to be their best.
My Project
I am asking for items that will give my students a choice about where in the classroom they can work.
Students who are given choices and allowed to move around are healthier and happier.
The clipboards and lap desks will allow students to grab a carpet square and find a quiet corner of the classroom to do their work. Some of my students also like sitting on the floor during whole group lessons. With clipboards, they will be able to write neatly on their papers -- no more trying to use a knee as a writing surface!
Other students like staying at their seats to work. I would like to let them have the option of having bouncy bands on their chairs. That way, they can use the bands to stretch their legs and get some exercise in while staying where they're comfortable.
My overall goal is to give my students the opportunity to move around the room, and in doing so, incorporating movement into their day. The more I can do that, the healthier my students will be.
