My Students

As one of two PE teachers at our school, I serve our entire population of students. Our elementary school has a diverse range of students from all socioeconomic backgrounds who like many love to move while they sit.

As a PE teacher, I strive to get kids up and moving as often as possible and have encouraged our classroom teachers to do the same within the academic setting.

Students at my school love to move during my PE lessons, recess, and even in the classroom.

My Project

Many classrooms at our school offer children the flexibility to move while learning with personalized seating choices. Many of these seating choices include stability balls in a kinesthetic classroom. Research shows that movement grows brain cells therefore allowing our children to move while learning is essential for their growth as elementary students. By making students more comfortable and giving them an alternative to traditional seating, students will be more engaged, more alert, and more motivated daily in class. As a PE teacher, it is my duty to encourage teachers to implement personalized seating in their classrooms. Keeping the hundreds of stability balls inflated on a daily basis is a challenging task without a suitable air compressor. This project will improve my school because it will allow me to help classroom teachers incorporate what we know from research about student learning and the need for kinesthetic movement as a part of that learning process.
