Moving and Learning

My Students

I teach physical education in an urban school in Washington D.C. My students are active and inquisitive. They love to play different games and sports. Many of our students are from immigrant families and have their own stories to tell. My students work hard in school and after school to become successful.

Many of them live in small apartments and don't get a chance to get outside to exercise.

I would like to make sure they are active while at school.

My Project

Sometimes students can't go outside for recess due to inclement weather. Keeping them busy inside can be a challenge.

Their bodies need to move so they can learn while in the classroom.

I would like to provide a class set of Speed Stacks for our school t use for indoor recess. This will give students an activity to do while inside that gets their minds and bodies moving. Cup stacking is an activity that requires focus, practice and speed. Students love to compete with themselves or another student. A class pack of cups allows me to teach the activity in PE class. Then students can work in partners or small groups to cup stack during indoor recess. Supporting this project will allow students a much better indoor recess experience.
