Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students need some hands-on manipulatives to learn math in a more concrete way during our small group instruction. Our school is located in a low socioeconomic area of the city, but that doesn't determine the hopes and goals our students have for themselves. Eighty percent or more of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch, with parents that have two jobs to support their families. We have a variety of ethnic groups and home languages. Our students are eager to learn. They come to school every day with great attitudes despite what happens at home and they want to go to college and be successful. Statistics show that our students are most at risk of failure and dropping out. Don't let these great kids have academic success pass them by. Students that come from very diverse homes need to build their self-confidence to be successful in life. Teaching kids in poverty implies the need to express how successful they are being during their learning. We need to provide positive feedback all the time.
My Project
Having a brand new rug in our classroom will allow my students to move from their boring desks and learn better during my small group instruction. We will be able to have collaborative conversations while working with manipulatives. I have also created many manipulatives but I need more eco-friendly bags to store them in a way that they can be used frequently by my students. We will use the addition whiteboard charts to help them be more fluent in their math facts.
In our school, our kids love to play soccer during recess but we don't have soccer goals for them to play.
With these soccer goals, I expect my students to be more organized during their games and not have to use their sweaters as the goal.
I want my class to become more engaging, being able to move around the school or outside and still be able to have the technology we need with the Nebula projector which will help my students get excited to come to school.
