My students need a trampoline to help them expend energy and feel more regulated throughout the day. Sensory toys like play food, Giant Sight and Sound Tubes and My First Laptop help them learn about the world around them.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom has 8 non verbal 5-7 year old autistic students. Most of the day we are using different modalities to learn.
In a non-verbal classroom like ours, we use sensory toys and games to teach our students about the world around them.
They need to learn about cause and effect like, What happens when I shake this? What sound does it make? What happens when I push this button? And, Will it happen every time I push it? This kind of learning helps our students understand the world around them and helps to make it a less scary place for them.
My Project
My students love movement! A classroom trampoline is so important for a quick movement break, which my students need often. A jump on the trampoline can help them feel more regulated and be able to sit down and focus on new learning. Jumping on the trampoline also helps my students rid themselves of excess energy and feel more relaxed.
My classroom will be better equipped to handle the sensory needs of my students with a trampoline and the other sensory toys I requested.
I want my students to feel calm and ready to learn!
