Working at a magnet school near Charlotte, North Carolina, I have the fortune of working with children from all walks of life. Many are from low-income households and often don't have the opportunity to experience life outside the realms of school, so I consider it my personal mission to make school a magical and enriching environment where every child feels loved, safe, and excited to learn each and every day.
Kindergartners are eager balls of energy, so precious and full of life, and it is an honor to be their first teacher charged with instilling a love of learning from the moment they start school.
Every child learns differently and at their own pace. Creating an environment with meaningful activities that reach all of my learners is essential to not only create a passion for learning, but to make sure that every child sees their own potential.
These exercise ball chairs will be one of several options for flexible seating in my kindergarten classroom. Our school will be joining a personalized learning cohort next year, and as a part of that process I would like to offer a variety of non-traditional seating options for my students. Kindergarten is often the first experience children have working in a large group outside of the comforts of home, and the traditional hard seats do not always meet the needs of our youngest scholars.
Exercise ball chairs allow for movement while learning, keeping students engaged and active, which allows for deeper concentration and the reduction of stress.
As a teacher I strive to accommodate the needs of all of the different learning styles my students have, and flexible seating options are another way to meet their needs.
