My students are dreamers, problem solvers, and likely the most creative little people you will ever meet.
They are a happy group of first graders that love school, and they love to learn.
100% of our school qualifies for free breakfast and lunch, yet they don't let hardships stand in their way of learning. My students' economic situations are just as varied as are their family dynamics. We have military families, with a local National Guard Unit in our area and Hill Air Force Base close by. One of my student's dad is currently serving a tour in the Air Force in South Korea. We aim to take good care of our military families. Our district includes an Indian Reservation and we have a high population of Hispanic students, many of whom have family members that work in the agricultural industry.
My Project
The Ron Clark Academy was started by teachers Ron Clark and Kim Bearden. They also teach there and run the conference I want to attend.
Ron Clark believes in "seeing" each group of students as a class full of lawyers, business leaders, artists, and presidents, and since we cannot be sure which of them will hold these positions, we must best prepare all of them.
In addition to the classroom observations and experiences with the RCA staff and students, educators will also attend several workshops that include topics such as strategies for effective classroom discipline, integrating music into the classroom, increasing student engagement through higher order questioning, teaching creatively while achieving high standardized tests, implementing games that promote student engagement, promoting academic rigor while meeting the needs of all learners, and creating a climate and culture that promotes student success. I was fortunate to attend this conference before. Our school implemented the "house system". Now we have lots of questions and want to learn more, so that our school can make even greater gains and improvements.
I am asking to attend the Educators' Conference where I will receive training from the "best of the best!" Attending this conference will definitely enhance my teaching skills and give me a fresh approach with new ideas to share with my students and other teachers I work with on a daily basis.
