My Students

Hello! I am a 2nd grade teacher at a Title 1 School in South Salt Lake! Our school is in a very low socio-economic portion of the city, with most of our students being on Free and Reduced Lunch accounts. Our students deserve the best out of their education, but because they come from lower income households, they have not had the opportunity to come into grade school now with the skill-set that others have. My project will gear towards allowing them to access their educations in more meaningful ways.

My Project

At our school, students don't have access to new and exciting things. Most students have never played with a yoga ball, or been allowed to move around when they are learning. They have been expected to sit in a chair and listen to the directions while being asked to learn about things they never dreamed of.

My students can learn while moving.

I have used a kickband with several students, and when my colleague got flexible seating I saw her students take off! I want to give my students that opportunity, and watch them be kids. I hope that through this movement my students will learn that there is no "required" way to learn, but that they will understand that through movement their learning can skyrocket.
