This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The students in our science department often struggle with math and abstract concepts (such as energy), but the mouse trap car project helps to make these concepts visible and connect to students' strengths in mechanical engineering.

This project was a student favorite last year for its engineering components and a teacher favorite for its application of physics topics to a competition that engages students.

Students will build cars that transform the potential energy of a set mouse trap to kinetic energy while exploring ideas of velocity, acceleration, momentum, and energy. As students improve their designs, they analyze data using graphs and speculate as to the causes of energy loss.
