I have a high energy class. We do a lot of hands on activities to help with all that energy. I want all my students to be actively participating in all lessons. With a wireless mouse, I am able to set up interactive power points where all students are engaged, participating and learning.
I work in a large, rural school.
A large percentage of students are low SES and fall in the poverty range. Our school is quite large with over 600 students and supplies and funds are very limited. I teach 3rd grade students who have a ton of energy and require a lot of hands on activities. They are the hardest workers and love technology. They are very curious and as a whole, love to participate and be heard. With the wireless mice, they will be able to actively engage during instruction through interactive lessons I create on-line. These will also be used for center activities to reteach and practice skills through the web. I have a very eager class, and they are so good about taking care of materials. They deserve the best because they are the best. They come from supportive and involved homes but unfortunately, financially, support is not there.
My Project
I am able to create interactive Power points and web pages that allow my students to learn a new idea and also actively answer questions as we learn new ideas. Each child will be given a mouse that will link to the program I am using and will allow them to answer questions by clicking the mouse. I will also use this idea in smaller group settings for center activities to practice skills, do class surveys and much more. This concept takes the boring out of lecture and allows each child to be an active participant and take ownership of his or her own learning.
My students will have more opportunities for engagement while instruction is given, and they will be using technology and working as a group.
This will encourage discussions and debates to occur in the classroom allowing students to not only learn from the teacher, but from one another. Students will enjoy this type of learning which will make the lessons more meaningful to them. This is when learning truly occurs.
