Mount Pleasant Spheros for 21st Century Job Skills
Help me give my students Spheros to learn programming, collaboration, express their creativity, and to think critically. These skills are critical for their success in school and beyond. These can be used in all classes.
We are a Pre-K through 12th STEAM campus that includes an Elementary, Middle, and High School. Our academics are focused on science, technology, engineering, arts and math. Our campus is located in a rural county and we are a Title I campus, so we receive federal funds that allow us to provide for some of the needs of our students, but it can not provide for everything .
Literature and arts are taught daily and we are integrating STEM instruction into all classes.
Our students have the opportunity to gain high-school credit in middle school through advanced courses and CTE credit courses. Our high school students have the option to earn college credit through advanced placement and dual enrollment. We also have a number of students who are able to earn certifications to help them become career and college ready. Both during the day and after school every day, we offer programs designed to support our students’ academic success.
My Project
Spheros are a great way to introduce students to programming and robotics. These robots can be used in math, science, STEM, and art classes to help students develop critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication skills. These can be used in math classes as students study distance, vectors, and operational orders. Students can program these Spheros, dip them in paint to create unique works of art, and in science understand acceleration and speed; the possibilities are endless with Spheros. This will provide hands on learning for students and help them get ready for career focused courses in high school and beyond.
These Spheros can provide a variety of learners access to programming robotics while teachers can enhance their STEM instruction by becoming facilitators to hands on lessons with the Spheros.
