I teach special education with a variety of grade and age levels as well as abilities and diagnoses. Each student is unique. Quick often they struggle with writing as it is a very complex process. In my room and as well as my school we are working on engaging our most complex learner's in new and unique ways. We are celebrating successes in all areas but highlighting writing.
We also like to do a lot of hands in building and creating in math class.
It is important to get all our senses involved. Our classroom is full of options and choices for materials. It is a fun learning environment for our struggling learner's.
My Project
Engagement and motivation are the cornerstone to learning when something is difficult for someone. In my classroom, students struggle to learn so providing learning opportunities for them with a multisensory approach will help them to enjoy the struggle that learning is for them.
Using legos to measure or create a setting for their story will help them to engage all the areas needed to make their learning fun and successful.
Gel pens and raised line paper will make the process of writing smoother. Puppets will allow a student's oral language and vocabulary to grow through play or retelling a story using props.
