Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in an urban school in New Jersey. My students are inquisitive, charismatic, and unique. The past eighteen months have been challenging, but they have shown me the true meaning of resilience and strength!

My students love to read!

I just have an issue in that I am a new teacher to this district, and the resources in my classroom are limited. I am excited to make them excited about learning, reading, and writing in my language arts classroom!

My Project

Even before the pandemic, the students that I teach came to school with a great deal of weight on their shoulders. The past couple of years has added enormous pressure to this weight. Sometimes it is hard to feel motivated to succeed and try hard in school when you feel pushed past your comfort zone just by showing up to school. I want to help my students feel reinvigorated and motivated to focus and succeed by giving them more to look forward to when they get to my class.

The items that you donate will be used in the new PBIS token economy I am building for my students.

The prizes will address needs that they may have, such as gift cards that they can use to buy food or clothing items they may need, games to play alone or with friends, fidgets that can help curb distracting behaviors during class time, sports equipment, etc.

My students will be awarded raffle tickets for following the class rules, being on task, being good classroom citizens, and other positive classroom behaviors. The goal is to focus on prevention, and not punishment, of undesirable behaviors. I will be supplementing the donated prizes with other prizes that I will personally provide, such as lunch with the teacher, free time, and other items from my class store. At the end of each month, I will raffle off the prizes and award the lucky, hardworking winners!
