My students are a wonderful group of six students with Autism between the ages of 5-8. My students are all very sweet and eager to learn! The majority of my students come from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds. My students learn best through a variety of modalities - visual, tactile, kinesthetic, and auditory. They show their enthusiasm by actively engaging in activities, as well as through smiling and laughing with enjoyment. My students are learning many functional life skills. The majority of my students are non-verbal. We work hard on facilitating communication skills through modeling, as well as through the use of picture symbols and communication devices. In addition, my students strive to improve their academic skills. Having a well-rounded education is so important!
The students in my class are amazing!
They work hard every day! The students in my class need motivation to work on their annual goals. These are annual goals specifically designed for that particular student. During instruction, my students are given a choice to select the toys they would like to work for. Then, when they have completed their trials with success, they earn their selected reinforcer. This is a great motivator for my students!
During this instruction, my students need motivating toys to keep them interested and working hard! It is important to differentiate reinforcers for my students since they all have different interests! While one student likes Minion toys, another student likes Baby Shark toys! Still another student likes a tv character, Catdog toys!
With the use of these individualized toys, my students would focus on their programs, learn new skills, and feel better about themselves!
