Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Recently we have just transitioned to full online learning. The students were able to borrow a laptop from the district and we have been using google classroom. Due to working in a Title 1 school, many of the kids did not have access to technology prior to renting a school laptop.
We went home on a Thursday and Thursday night school was cancelled indefinitely so the kids were not able to take home any supplies for them to use.
All of the uncertainty that is going on in the world right now is scary. That is why I am trying hard to get supplies in my students hands not only to help with their education but also to bring them some comfort.
My Project
I am requesting various materials that will benefit my students in a number of ways. First off, I am requesting many social emotional books to read aloud to my students. I will also be sending these books to students who I know normally have counseling at school to help them work through this uncertain time. The social emotional games provide sentence starters that can be used in Google meets or even for a morning question! These materials will be shipped to my house then I will be dropping them off at multiple 3rd graders houses for them to use during distance learning. My students are doing well with online tasks; however, they really needs in person hands-on activities to help with different skills. That is why I am asked for things such as the multiplication dominoes.
These items will motivate my students to continue learning at home.
I am requesting laminating paper, card stock and velcro so I can make schedules for my students who are having difficulty at home. I am also requesting water beads because they are great for fine motor, social skills as well as an imaginative play motivator. The pencils and pencil sharpeners will be sent out to my students to ensure they all have something at home to write with! I am hoping having some new motivators will help my students stay focused and complete academic tasks.
