Motivating Children With Literature

My students need 8 sets of children's books to add to my own supplies to start the new school year with titles from "Twister on Tuesday" to "Dolphins at Daybreak".

My Students

Do you know what it is like to see a group of children who love reading? I have been able to inspire many budding readers throughout the past twenty years and I would like to continue doing just this. Capturing their attention with books that are meaningful to them is the key.

My students are second graders starting at a brand new school in Nevada.

They will be coming from a few different schools, but will be thrilled to attend a school in their own neighborhood. New schools are wonderful, but are lacking many of the materials that older schools have been able to acquire trough they years.

My Project

By using a variety of trade books and novels I have been able to start my second grade students on a path of lifelong learning. The books that I have selected capture the interest of students and instills a desire to read more. Year after year after we read a book in a series, the children can't wait to get to the library and read more on their own. Creating a love of reading in children is the first step in creating lifelong learners.

The books that I have selected take students on adventures such as swimming with dolphins, sailing on the Titanic, interacting with gorillas, and traveling back in time to the prairie.

I have selected books that are centered on dogs, and children love stories about dogs. Funding this project will enable me to inspire a whole new group of young readers!
