This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"I don't get it!" This phrase is the bane of teachers everywhere. In kindergarten, there are many new math concepts that lay the foundation for future learning. A complete set of interactive CD-ROM discs will allow us to more efficiently use our interactive whiteboard to teach math skills.

Our kindergarten classroom is tucked in a small neighborhood school in the San Joaquin Valley of California.

The students in our room come from varied living situations ranging from nuclear families, foster families, multiple family homes, and military families. We are culturally diverse, with many of our students speaking a language other than English at home. The parents are hard-working folks who only want the best for their children. As you know, we are considered a high-poverty school with the majority of our students receiving free/reduced lunch and breakfast at school. Our rural school district is comprised of only two schools. I am proud to have served the children and families of our school for over ten years now.

My Project

Kids today are conditioned to receiving information digitally. You can see them at a very young age flipping through applications on cell phones or accessing computer games, so it makes sense that my students love using our interactive whiteboard in our classroom. A set of interactive CD-ROMs will allow me to cover essential math concepts right on our interactive whiteboard at a level that’s perfect for kindergarten students! The complete set includes 24 CD-ROM discs that highlights each word and reads it aloud. The children will be able to not only see brilliant color photographs of examples of the math concept being taught, they will also be able to read along! Each disc also includes skill-building activities that boost comprehension, a guide with extension activities plus interactive tools for highlighting text, underlining words and much more. This project will make learning math vocabulary and key concepts come to life on our interactive whiteboard!

The addition of this set of math interactive CD-ROM discs will allow me to take my students to the next level of learning.

By implementing this technology, my students will maximize their learning by seeing incredible photographs of key math concepts while listening to a professional narrator read the text to them. In addition,I will be able to hover on key concepts the children are challenged by. All in all, this resource will make us better mathematicians not only this year, but forever!
