Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I love my students while they’re in my classroom and long after they have graduated! My students truly make my job so much fun! Their smiles, laughter, and pure joy fuel me to be the best I can be, for MY kids! I want to make sure that EVERY student has the opportunity to find the joy and excitement in physical fitness! My student population group mostly consists of Title I students. I work at 5 local elementary schools, and teach 84 classes, yes, you read that correctly, it is NOT a typo. This is adds up to over 2,000 students, that would utilize these materials. I would like them to have something they can use as a tool to help them succeed, not only physical education, but also academically. I believe this would give my students who aren’t as athletic, a good opportunity to have an even playing field to show off their success and accomplishments.

My Project

My students are such a fun and diverse group of kids! Each students makes the class unique and special in its own way. I can honestly say it is like night and day when I am able to include music into our lesson/activity.

The productivity tremendously increases when they have music that can correlate with the lesson/activity.

Unfortunately, not all schools have access to speakers or bluetooth devices that can be used for PE, so I took on the task myself of bringing my personal speaker. I have been using my personal bluetooth speaker and it has taken its toll on it. It no longer fully charges and isn't reliable enough for me to depend on working properly each day. My students ask every class if, "I can play some music to make it more fun"? If I was unable to charge it, you can visibly notice the participation is not what it u is, when we are able to listen to music.

Students who might normally try to sit out or say they are sick, change their minds really quickly once they hear the music. I know I personally do better when I have music and I am working out, so I can see why it is so important for them to have the music to get them up, moving around, and most importantly, grinning from ear-to-ear!

Most of my students with special needs seem to always have a positive reaction when they have music playing that is familiar. I recently played songs from the movie, "Encanto" and some students, who are not very verbal, started singing, interacting, and completing the lesson/activity. It is so fantastic to see them singing and dancing to "We Don't Talk About Bruno," with a HUGE grin on their faces!
