My Students

There are 75 eager learners in my 6th grade English Language Arts classroom. I implement the Teacher's College Reader's and Writer's Workshop program. My students come from four elementary buildings and filter into our middle school. It is a time of so much change - meeting new friends and adjusting to routines and expectations.

My goal is to create a learning environment that promotes a love of reading and writing and builds an accepting and empathetic community.

I realized right away that middle school students have unique needs and if I want to keep them engaged, I need to think out the box. My students are enthusiastic and inventive, and this generation of students love to collaborate and talk!

My Project

After receiving the diverse books in my last Donor's Choose project, my students have been sharing their excitement over the titles. Many of these books are the second book in the series or multiple copies of books that many students want to read.

I am always excited when students love a book and want to further their learning and enthusiasm.

The books in this project do just that!
