This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I'm requesting three sand benches, and tools to have my students create a design on the benches with mosaic tiles. We already have the tiles, but due to an issue with funding during COVID, we never received these materials to make our artistic dream come to life!

Since we have a huge population of autism, special needs, ESL and bilingual students in our school, not to mention diverse cultural backgrounds, I love to expose our students to a variety of hands on learning experiences through the arts.

This would be a totally new experience in the world of creation.

We have a small garden on the side of our school that we beautify the best we can. Right now, there are about four big tires laying flat that we are going to paint, and inside of the tires, students will be planting flowers. During the spring and when the weather is nice, some teachers will take their students there for class time, or even just for a little break in the day. It would be such a nice addition to the garden to add these benches with mosaics on them designed by the students. They would not only learn about the history behind creating mosaics, but also how they are created. Students will be able to design collaboratively with other students and staff members which will also connect with Social Emotional Learning. Their designs will reflect our school culture and climate, as well as a little bit of their own flair. This will also be a permanent fixture in the garden that they can be proud of every time they see it. The other materials requested will be to shape the tiles, and adhere them to the benches.
