The 2nd graders who enter my classroom come from diverse backgrounds. Just like adults, they are facing many different challenges. Being in a Title 1 school, my students face many socioeconomic challenges. These challenges are not their fault, and as their teacher, I want to make their days as stress free as possible.

Even though they come from many different backgrounds, each student has a desire to learn and grow. Just like their diverse backgrounds, each student is a diverse learner. As a teacher it is my duty to meet each student where they are and help them grow to their fullest potential.
My Project
Imagine dealing with stress at home or on the school bus and then having to come to school and start your day with a worksheet. Sounds terrible right? I want to change that for my 2nd graders this year. I am going to be implementing Morning Choice, which allows students to come in and choose for themselves what they want to start their day doing. This will allow students to start their day off on the right foot.
STEAM gives students an opportunity to grow as critical thinkers and sharpen their 21st Century Skills.
These skills play an important roll in turning them into life long learners. Think about it, the students in my class today will have jobs that currently do not exist. Critical thinking and the ability to problem solve will be crucial when they leave school and enter the job force.
I want to provide my students a way to sharpen their critical thinking skills without realizing they are learning. They need a way to jumpstart their day by having fun and working hard.
