Learning a new language can be very hard! It involves a lot of memorization and practice. The more visuals students have such as flashcards and pictures, the easier it is for them to learn and practice the language!
I teach Spanish one through Spanish three at a large urban high school in St.
Louis. My students are from working class to lower-income families, and the school is very diverse. The community and parents are involved and support the high school which makes it a wonderful place to work!
My Project
My students need four Pacon Array Card Stock in assorted pastels and four Astrobrights Card Stock packs for attractive visuals to learn new vocabulary! Learning a new language is difficult, and students have to memorize a lot of vocabulary. This can be very easy for some students and very difficult for others.
However, what I have found in my experience teaching is that when I provide pictures to practice the new words, students learn the vocabulary at a much faster rate. What I do is print out pictures and glue them on card stock. On the back of each card I write the word in Spanish to essentially make a big flashcard. Having flashcards makes it easy to run through vocabulary at the beginning of class and also provides visuals and prompts for class activities. Therefore, the students handle the flashcards a lot too, which is why I prefer to use card stock so that the cards hold up better!
Having flashcards to use in class will facilitate learning for my students, especially those who struggle with vocabulary.
With a better understanding of material, students will inevitably feel smarter and more confident, which leads to happier and more motivated students. Also, having flashcards will lead to more hands-on and interactive learning, which is essential in foreign language. Therefore, having card stock with enhance my students' learning experience and learning environment!
