Our students come from a variety of economic and cultural backgrounds. Our students' families face many challenges (i.e., shelter, food, clothing, etc.). We are a low-income school in North Carolina.
My mission is to provide a comfortable, safe environment where students have all the resources they need to be academically successful.
Our students have limited resources and academic opportunities. They have very few opportunities to explore new worlds, so we try to visit as many places as we can through books.
My Project
These graphic novels will add diversity to my classroom library. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy. They are able to pick out books that interest them for enjoyed reading. Independent reading is an important aspect of reading fluency. Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and my students are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these graphic novels have been chosen with my students in mind. I have asked them what type of graphic novels would they would enjoy reading and this project was created for them. With your donations, students will be able to choose books of interest for independent reading time in class.

Some readers gain the reading skills necessary for discussing texts by beginning with graphic novels. Since everyone can read graphic novels, everyone can talk about them! My students are always looking for graphic novels on our shelves, so this project will only help motivate and enrich their experiences by including more diverse graphic novels to choose from within their own classroom.
