My Project

If I am teaching from the carpet in my classroom, I strategically choose students to sit near me or have students sit next to the person they typically sit next to at their desks. Also, I pair or group students based on their best learning place during varying academic subjects. There is also the option of allowing students to choose one partner. As a result, friends chat less because they want to maintain their privilege.

Students learn through accountable talk, and when they are on the carpet, we can monitor our volumes and still be able to listen and respond to our partners or have the personal space to think independently.

Students gain a new perspective with flexibility by moving around the room and sitting on the carpet and at desks. Engagement and intrigue keep children attentive as they anticipate what's to come while given the opportunity to give their brains a new view of the space, encouraging community, collaboration, and self-regulation.
