My Project

My students with Intellectual Disabilities spend part of their school day working on life and vocational skills to support them in obtaining supported employment and living as independently as possible after they graduate from public school.

To support this learning, we operate a coffee shop – Beaver Beans where students learn to sell coffee cards, collect payment, label and organize materials, pull espresso using a professional espresso machine, ensure quality of their product, and delivery.

As well – they are working on the fundamental life skills of task analysis, following a checklist, communication, fine and gross motor skills, and so much more. We would like to expand this program with your help.

Many adults with disabilities are employed in retail settings (e.g. a grocery store) completing tasks such as stocking, inventory scanning, unpacking, folding of clothing, etc. We are asking for the supplies to teach them those skills while in high school, so they leave our program with a robust set of job skills, life skills, AND a competitive resume.
