My Project

I love how excited my students get when we read and do activities with Pete the Cat books! I am a speech-language pathologist working with students with developmental delays in grades K-1 in a 12:1:4 classroom. My students have moderate to severe receptive and expressive language delays. The Pete the Cat books use basic language and exciting stories to teach the students vocabulary, friendship, colors, counting, feelings and more. Pete's family are loving role models and the stories reinforce that whatever happens in life, you can rise above it.

My students love playing with plush characters from books that help their favorite stories become interactive and more concrete.

They use the Pete the Cat stuffed animals to act out and retell the stories in the appropriate sequence while using learned vocabulary. Playing with the plush character while looking at the books helps to elicit vocabulary, maintain attention, increase participation and strengthen expressive language skills.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
