This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our project aims to provide 4th and 5th grade students with hands-on materials to deepen their understanding of number sense, specifically focusing on fractions and decimals. By utilizing number lines as a key instructional tool, we align our teaching methods with the new California Math Framework, which emphasizes the importance of visual and interactive learning in developing a strong mathematical foundation. These materials will help students visualize and manipulate fractions and decimals, thereby making abstract concepts more tangible and understandable.

What makes my students special is their resilience and determination.

I teach in a school with all emergent bilingual students who come from low socio-economic backgrounds. Despite the challenges they face, they exhibit a remarkable eagerness to learn and grow academically. With the support of donors, we plan to acquire number lines, fraction tiles, decimal grids, and other manipulatives that will be used in daily math lessons. These resources will not only engage students but also foster a more inclusive learning environment where every child can succeed. By integrating these hands-on activities, we aim to enhance students' ability to compare, order, and perform operations with fractions and decimals, ultimately building their confidence and proficiency in math. Your generous contribution will make a significant impact on our students' educational journey, helping them become confident and capable mathematicians.
