Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a special magnet school in the heart of Oklahoma City. We offer one of the only International Baccalaureate programs in the state as well as intense visual and performing arts programs and a plethora of Advanced Placement classes.
Though our school and its students are amazing, like so many other schools, we suffer from severe budget cuts and lack of supplies, and pocketbooks are limited.
That is why support from the community is vital to providing our students with the support they need, especially a well-stocked library. Thank you for considering my project!
My Project
As the librarian, I have the great honor to work with all the students in the building. Not only do I get to help them academically, but I can also help them emotionally. One way to do this is through makerspaces.
Makerspaces in the library allow students an outlet to be creative and to work together.
These materials will give my high schoolers the materials to take a brain break from their rigorous academic schedule.
The games and puzzles in this project will help students build their interpersonal skills and have some fun with their peers. The art materials are intended to provide a hands-on creative outlet. The microphones are for making student-made podcasts and videos more engaging.
