This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine learning social studies by merely reading from 2nd grade social studies text. Teaching the three branches of our government to 2nd graders cannot be done solely by text. What can be more exciting and engaging for my students than to have more authentic reading materials that are up-to-date?
I work with 25 energetic and eager to learn second graders.
We're in a highly dense area of inner city and are a public school that serve all the children of the neighborhood. We also have breakfast in the classroom and are all in the free lunch program.
My Project
In order to teach my students the three branches of the government effectively, I need tools to support and enhance the outdated social studies curriculum. The tools that I am requesting are toner cartridge for the printer and government photo book series. The black toner cartridge will replenish and enable my students to print out up to date current events from various learning websites, such as Discovery Learning and Scholastic News Magazines. The first and second hand research will provide my students more opportunities to learn text features of informational. At the same time, will also strengthen their reading skills. The government photo book series will enable my students to read about what our government and the people who helped made a difference, both past and present. These high interest books will spark curiosity and also engage questionings about current social issues in their daily life at an early age.
With your generous donation to help bring these important tools to my classroom, social studies will no doubt be my students' favorite subject to learn and to wonder.
Your contribution will sprout curiosity and create responsible citizens of tomorrow.
