I have a great group of kid to teach. They are from a variety of backgrounds, but are all eager to learn. I have some students that are at the top of their age group in the state, and others that play at a beginner's level.
These kids range from freshmen to seniors, but all work together to create great music.
They rely on each other for help, and encourage each other to do better and try harder. They help to inspire the other kids to get better at different disciplines of music, and encourage others to try new things, focusing on what there is to learn, rather than what there is that they don't yet know. In the end, we try and live by the saying I learned from my first private teacher, "Good enough is NEVER good enough."
My Project
This project is to bring more hand percussion into the classroom for two sides of the globe. The tambourines are for studying orchestral repertoire in class and to enable us to play percussion ensembles that call for several tambourines. This is the Western world side of this project. The Congas and Cowbells will help to give more kids access to work with quality hand percussion while we are studying Afro-Cuban rhythms.
I believe that it is very important to give kids access to materials, instruments and instruction that will help to expand their world-view and to learn about other cultures.
The additional crotale items are to replace broken hardware that we have been using for years, and cases to help keep that hardware safe and protected.
