I teach at a Title I school in Las Vegas, that serves K-5 students. My classroom is full of 4th graders who come from diverse economic and ethnic backgrounds. Many students do not have access to books or technology at home and rely on our school to expose them to these experiences. Many of my students speak a second language.
My 4th graders are full of energy; they are motivated to learn and come to school with a positive attitude.
I encourage my students to try their hardest and to never give up.
My Project
My classroom is full of avid readers who love getting new books to read. My goal is to create a print-rich environment in the classroom to accommodate this very need. I try my best to bring different books and titles to the classroom since my students are always on the hunt for new reads. These books range from chapter books to graphic novels.
They provide a fresh selection for them to pick from and to read independently at their own level.
As a class, they also learn to treat their books with love and care so they can pass them on to the next incoming class.
