I need books and manuals on teaching the value of money and counting money, hands-on curriculum materials, and organization to improve my development in the area of financial literacy.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a Title I School in North Carolina and many of my students are at-risk for academic failure. This is many of my students' first time in a school setting. The early learners in my class are more interested in the process of discovering and manipulating materials, much more than the final products of their experiments. Learning experiences are meaningful and relevant for every child and reflect his or her developmental, cultural, and individual circumstances. My students love to move and be active. However, because of recent budget cuts, we are unable to purchase additional resources such as the ones requested.
My Project
Help me provide my students with good financial literacy instruction in our classroom. These resources will help that to happen. My students need to learn more about money, wants, and needs. I believe it is important for children to learn how to save money as soon as they learn one-to-one correspondence in preschool.
I need books like, “Why Can't I Have Everything?”, “Teaching Today's Children to Be Financially and Mathematically Savvy”, and “Teaching Counting and Cardinality Using LEGO Bricks” to help me effectively teach financial literacy to my students in a developmentally appropriate way.
The Needs and Wants books will teach me how to extend my lessons and use the correct age-appropriate terminology to teach my young students about saving, and making wise financial choices. The Flip chart also includes a teacher’s guide with step-by-step instructions on how to teach this sometimes completed subject. These books will help me grow as a professional to make my math lessons more engaging for students. I can't wait to help them build a solid foundation for their financial literacy skills.
