This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In this media based society young people are raised in, teachers need to use technology in their lessons to make them relevant to students. Using new technology will capture the attention of students and keep them engaged in their learning. My students need media tools in their history class.

My students are curious and inquisitive to learn about the world that surrounds them.

However, most of my students hardly ever explore the world beyond their urban neighborhood. Growing up in low-income working class families often limits students' access to technologies, their city and the world. To many students, using the Internet or other new media tools is their only way to connect to the world. Unfortunately, when these tools are not found at home, their school is the only place they can have access. The reality is that our school, like many other urban public schools found in low-income neighborhoods are usually under-resourced, lacking the newest media technologies. Most classrooms in our school lack computers, and an array of media tools that other children in America have access to at home and in schools. My students are part of a generation that will need to be media savvy, and have media literacy skills to be able to compete and succeed.

My Project

Installing a modern HDTV with multiple plug-ins and Internet capabilities will give my students a powerful tool to showcase their presentations on their learned history content. This tool will give students the ability to present crystal clear Power-Points, slide shows, web-based presentations, film clips and student generated videos. The size of the HDTV is large, which offers detailed visibility to all students in my classroom. This media tool will serve multiple uses through the entire school year curriculum for students in all my classes.
