My students need 2 iPod touches to use for math apps in the classroom. There are so many valuable apps out there that will increase their abilities in math.
You don't ride to work in a carriage -- don't make our kids learn with antiques. Please help our kids use iPods in the classroom. We are trying to increase the math skills of our students. However, with only a few computers available to those students, I'm not meeting the needs daily.
I teach 3rd grade.
I have a mixture of students in the classroom. I currently have 11 students that are performing below grade level, with 8 students performing above level. For this reason, I need activities that I can cater to both groups of students. The use of QR codes could be beneficial in allowing them to come in daily and complete activities independently for my high ability group. The lower ability group could be working with me, then be able to go and use the computers and iPods after my lesson to further enhance the learning experience.
My Project
I will no longer be the center of attention as the dispenser of information, but rather I will play the role of facilitator, setting project goals and providing guidelines and resources, moving from student to student or group to group, providing suggestions and support for student activity. The students will be able to set their own goals and responsibilities of their learning.
The students will have the ability to work on much needed math skills.
To quote Chris Biffle of Whole Brain Teaching "Your classroom might be the only lifeboat that kid ever has... What a JOY to pull those kids into your lifeboat! It can change their lives. The teachers united can never be defeated!" I hope bringing math resources to them will be the lifeboat that these kids need.
