My Students

I am trying to give my students an English elective that they will get excited about when it comes to reading. This English elective class will be preparing students for their future college English classes. I am picking works of literature that they can connect to.

I teach in an urban high school in the state of New York.

We are a high-needs district where our poverty levels are great. Unfortunately with budget cuts, we are unable to provide all of the resources that our students need in order for them to be successful. We need help providing resources to students that are excited about reading and want to take an English elective that is current and to their interests.

My Project

We need 30 copies of The Road by Cormac McCarthy, and 29 copies The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, and My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. When students are excited about reading, they get involved in the piece of literature and make connections on a whole different level. These resources will allow my students to get a first hand experience of modern English literature and how it can relate to their lives.

We need copies of three books: The Road by Cormac McCarthy, The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, and My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult.

These books will allow my students to use modern literature to make connections to their own lives. This will not only impact their high school education, but their college education too.
