This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is a beautiful reflection of future America. My students represent true diversity. In my classes alone up to 20 cultures are present. From English Learners new to the community, students of low socio economic households, future first generation college graduates, descendants of military officiers to middle upper class families for have been residents of Alameda for many generations. Despite their various backgrounds the students are homogeneously Jets. The student work together and learn together as a family.
My Project
This year, one-third to one-half of our Algebra 1 students have a challenging math history. Many of our students experienced math teacher turnover for an average of two years. As a default have passed prior math courses without gaining mastery of prerequisite skills.
Students will use graphing calculators to explore how math is used in 21st century professional environments.
Applied mathematics projects are opportunities for students to interact with technology to explore higher math pathways.
Our students math history makes them high risk for not taking AP math courses. We aim to shift our students math trajectory despite their challenges!
