The DJI Osmo Phone Gimbals and tripods you funded have become game-changers for over 100 students in grades 7-12 who are learning the art and skill of visual storytelling.\r\n\r\nHow This Technology Helps Students Learn\r\nYou might use your smartphone to capture everyday moments, but in our high-tech media classroom, these devices have become professional-grade filmmaking tools. Our students produce real video content for our school's social media presence and create polished films for our annual spring film festival. The gimbals you provided give their phone footage that smooth, cinematic quality that was simply impossible to achieve before. Instead of shaky, amateur-looking clips, students now capture shots with the professional polish that matches the calibre of their storytelling—helping them build essential composition and filming skills they'll use throughout their careers.\r\nThe tripods have opened up entirely new possibilities for our broadcasting students. After athletic events, they can now conduct player interviews on the spot without lugging around heavy equipment or needing a partner to hold the camera. This independence has empowered students to take ownership of their productions in ways we couldn't before.\r\n\r\nWhat Excites Students Most\r\nWhile there's admittedly a learning curve—students have told me the gimbals take some practice to master—they're absolutely thrilled by what becomes possible once they get the hang of it. The most exciting part? They can now achieve unique camera angles and dynamic shots that bring their creative visions to life. One student was so inspired that she produced an entire 5-minute film completely on her own using the gimbal, capturing professional-quality footage that would have been impossible without this equipment. The pride in her voice when she talked about those shots was unforgettable.\r\n\r\nStudents Who've Embraced This Technology\r\nThat solo filmmaker I mentioned represents so many of our students who've embraced this technology with passion and determination. Students who previously needed partners or assistance can now work independently, exploring their creative instincts without technical limitations holding them back. Our broadcasting students have become more confident and proactive, knowing they have the tools to capture quality content whenever news breaks or opportunities arise.\r\n\r\nA Heartfelt Thank You\r\nDonors, you've done something remarkable. You've given my students—who are creative, passionate, and so deserving—the tools to match their talent with professional-quality output. These gimbals and tripods will serve students for years to come, helping each new group develop the media literacy, composition, and technical skills that are critical for success in our digital world. You believed in what I see every day: students with incredible stories to tell who simply needed the right tools to tell them. Thank you for making that possible. Thank you for investing in their futures. Thank you for helping them create work they can be truly proud to share with our community.","fullyFundedDate":1755713975782,"projectUrl":"project/vision-to-video-help-my-students-become/9625223/","projectTitle":"Vision to Video: Help My Students Become Digital Storytellers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Henneman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7415809_orig.jpg?crop=2338,2338,x712,y685&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755653007098","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7415809"},{"teacherId":9704595,"projectId":9315554,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our dissection project. For many of them, this was their first exposure to such in-depth scientific inquiry, and the experience was transformative. They were able to connect textbook concepts to the real world, sparking curiosity and fostering a deeper understanding of biology.\r\n\r\nYour donation not only provided them with the tools to succeed in the classroom, but also helped prepare them for future college-level labs and STEM careers. When faced with problems that look intimidating, they often use calculators to test different values and check their thinking. For some students, guessing and checking is an entry point into engagement and often leads to stronger mathematical reasoning over time. These calculators have made a huge difference, especially for students who tend to shut down when presented with mathematical sentences or expressions. With calculators available, these students are more willing to try, to ask each other questions, and to stick with a problem through collaboration.\r\n\r\nFrom a teaching perspective, the calculators have opened up more opportunities to have meaningful conversations during small group or individual check-ins. Without the added demand of performing precise mental math, I can ask guiding questions that build on students' prior knowledge and support both conceptual understanding and procedural fluency.\r\n\r\nIn one instance, a student was stuck on a multi-step linear equation like 3x + 6 = 18. \r\n Instead of simply walking them through how to isolate the variable, I was able to ask questions that drew out their reasoning (\"The solution will be 'x = ?', so how do we isolate x?\"), tested their understanding (\"I need to get rid of the 6 and the 3... I can make zero on this side, but I have to subtract from the other side too to keep it balanced\"), and reinforced the procedure (\"What's 18 minus 6? And then divide by 3?\").\r\n\r\nMoments like that capture exactly what we hope for: students feeling capable in their thinking and confident in their knowledge. Whether you're a parent, a community member, or someone who simply believes in students, your support is helping us build a more encouraging, thoughtful, and empowering learning environment.
