My Students
The students in my class attend an urban school district with limited financial resources. Most of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of them have experienced crime in their lives and find it difficult to come to school. They have a range of learning abilities and come from diverse backgrounds. The typical student in my class needs activities that promote unity and teamwork. My students need ways to communicate with others in fun and engaging ways.
My students deserve an opportunity to interact and thrive in a STEM-driven classroom that supports and promotes twenty-first century standards and expectations.
There continues to be a slide in the school's budget, so any chance to provide resources for my students is slim to none. My students need resources to address a variety of deficiencies in order to meet grade-level expectations.
My Project
Creating an inviting classroom setting is so important when motivating students in a Zoom classroom. The backdrop, lights, holiday signs, letters, and copy paper will be used to create a math bulletin board. The resources will be displayed across two windows in my home classroom to display students’ work. I want my students to know I appreciated all their hard work by displaying their accompishments. After using the dry erase grids, protractors, and markers to teach my geometry units, students will create geometry math projects to display on the bulletin board. I will print them out and display their hard work. I know they will be excited to see their work.
The dry-erase grids, protractors, and markers are so important because they allow me to quickly, and legibly model problems that can be viewed even in a tiny grid window on Zoom.
In addition, the iPad chargers, stand, case, and pen will allow me to use our class iPad with a variety of online apps to model problems and share explanations. Having a writing surface to share in Zoom will allow me to effectively manage time on task. During remote teaching, having a variety of resources will allow me to share real-time responses, engage students with different activities, and keep instruction interesting. To keep resources readily available, I will organize, label, and store them in the storage boxes. I am truly looking forward to providing my visual learners with a visually stimulating virtual learning environment.
