My Project

Our school services students ages 3-5 in early childhood education and age 4 kindergarten. The staff incorporates music and movement into daily activities through song and dance. However, our students lack daily access to musical instruments.

Help me provide the students at our school with musical instruments on a mobile cart in order to incorporate music and rhythm into their play.

Although our students have ample gym space to run and play, we are in need of instruments to develop music and rhythm concepts. We are limited on physical spaces to offer a music class. The cart will allow teachers to bring the music into their classroom space and offer instruction on music and rhythm.

Our school is also growing in our inclusive practices of students with special needs. Students in regular education, as well as students with special needs, can follow along and express themselves through music and movement. Besides the musical benefits the instruments offer, the children develop literacy skills as a result of the beats, patterns, and rhythms they create. Research shows that musical experiences in an early childhood program accelerate brain development, especially with language and reading skills. It also improves mathematical learning.

In addition to the academic benefits of music, music helps children develop motor skills and social-emotional skills. When movement is incorporated, they develop self-expression. Above all else, music brings people of all ages joy.

All children are special. Many of our students are limited in their resources and experiences. The instruments would provide an opportunity to bring joy and self-expression within the safety of their classroom.
