My Project

Every year my students participate in the Minnesota Youth Reading Awards Star of the North program. We read all of the 10 books nominated for the award and students vote for their favorite book. Their votes, along with the votes of K-8 students throughout MN, determine the winner of this award.

This project will provide a copy of each of the nominated books that our library does not yet own as well as some other library tools.

The Star of the North program engages students in reading and encourages them to think critically about picture books. They need to compare each title to determine which book they like the best and why. It provides an opportunity for students to participate in voting for something that has a tangible, important outcome.

This project will also provide electric pencil sharpeners and rolling carts for each class to carry and store their library books. We need to make sure those pencils are ready for voting day in April!
