Due to Natural Disasters, (such as Hurricane Maria), our District has enrolled 860 new students since August 20th. Many of these students lost everything in the Hurricane. Some of them don't even speak English. All of them seem scared. Many of them won't even speak during class.
Imagine what you would feel if you lost everything in a Natural Disaster!
Not only did these children lose everything, but they were uprooted and sent to new schools. Basically, everything in their life has changed.
My Project
This past school year has been so tragic for many of my students. We started the year with a major hurricane that left many students displaced from their homes and forced to enroll in a new school. For these children everything has changed. As if this wasn't scary enough, my Floridian students are now terrified with the recent violence that has happened in our neighboring school. As a teacher, my head is spinning! I don't know what I can do to make their lives easier. But I do know, that I am going to do anything in my power to try.
Because life is not meant to be traveled backwards, I keep reminding my students to not waste their time looking back on what they've lost!
I encourage them that there are better days ahead!
Organizations like DonorsChoose help us find those people who are willing to help provide a light in these students lives. We can at least help provide them with basic necessities, so that they have a shot at focusing on their education. Please consider helping these children. Even if it is a small donation, it helps. Thank you.
